ABOUT

Laura Douglas is a graphic designer and horse and
landscape artist living eight hours West of Brisbane. She
has owned and operated her own graphic design and visual styling business for seven years. She is the wife of a man who was, as his father was, raised on this land. They have brought two more babies into that same magnificent way
of life, and really value the beauty of living on the land. Having ridden horses all her life, as she and her husband share the joy of horses and the land they love with their children, Laura finds it so natural to fill white spaces with horses and landscapes.

Laura has a happiness policy with all of her works. “I like landscapes to be a good place, it has to be happy. And horses have to have kind eyes. For me, they have to be free and happy. If I had to be static forever, I’d want to be happy! When you hang a work in your home, your world, it becomes part of your surrounds, and you absorb it constantly. It needs to be good; it needs to be positive what I’m giving people, its part of their lives. And I’m so truly happy when I paint, its lovely to pass that to someone else.”

Happiness is very important to the art
Laura creates. Laura practices Falun Dafa, an ancient Chinese qigong practice, and has long been moved by the beauty of traditional Chinese culture. It brings forth a light and happiness in her work which she believes is in us all. She hopes to pass that happiness on to each viewer. She
aims to celebrate the freedom of movement, push beyond our accepted views of a big world, and pass on goodness through bringing forth beauty, to everyone.

Douglas has successfully exhibited in numerous Regional Queensland galleries, Brisbane’s White Canvas Gallery - Fortitude Valley, and Sydney’s reputable Maunsell Wickes at Barry Stern Galleries in Paddington. After her latest exhibition in Brisbane, canvas&gown, working together with Couturier Jacqueline Buck of Jacqueline Buck
Couture to great exclusive hand painted gowns to form part of the label's Mercedes Benz Fashion Festival 2011 collection, Laura will joyously finalise works for a special showcase exhibition in Melbourne, during Spring Racing Carnival. Laura’s work is held in private collections across Australia, and Internationally.
